They say home is where the heart is... and my home and my heart are at Milton Middle School! A Yellowjacket myself, I remember falling in love with history in fifth grade and I have never imagined myself doing anything else since.  I graduated from Milton High School in 2013 and I received my Bachelors degree in History and Secondary Education from Johnson State College (Go Badgers!) in May of 2017

My personal interests - aside from social studies, of course - include basketball (I'm the former point guard at both Milton High School and Johnson State), hiking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.  I love to travel - my abroad trips thus far include Italy, France, England, and Martinique - and one of my life goals is to fill up my passport with as many stamps as possible.

I am so excited for my first teaching position to be in the community that raised me and shaped me into the person I am today!

A true Midwesterner, I grew up in Chicago and Iowa eating a lot of jello, meat, and potatoes.   I received my Bachelors degree from Iowa State University and my Masters degree from Bowling Green State University.  I started working as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Chicago in 1989 at Cook County Hospital - where the old TV show ER was modeled after! After some years in Chicago, I worked in NYC, where I almost became bilingual in Spanish while working with children and families primarily from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.   In 1999 I moved to Vermont!  I am grateful to have worked in Milton since then, and am grateful for all I have learned from the students, families, and staff.  I look forward to learning more! I am a strong believer in the MMS habits of mind and growth mindset; and I feel privileged to participate in the growth of our students.

Personally, I am a parent, mentor, and apparently a lover of a needy house, a high energy dog and thankfully, a not needy cat.  Luckily, I love to run, hike, cross country ski, snow shoe, and in general, be outside.

I was eight years old when I realized my fear of heights made me unsuitable for my dream of being an astronaut. Luckily, I had a backup plan in place: I would be a teacher. I grew up in Salem, Oregon and then moved to Portland to go to school at Lewis & Clark College (Bachelors of Arts in theatre, minors in English and music, honors in writing). I have taught in some form or other since 2001, with a detour through office jobs in environmental and human services organizations. In 2009, I traveled to Vermont with my now-wife, three cats and two fish in a 1998 Honda Accord. I received my teaching certification from the Upper Valley Educators Institute and started here at Milton Middle School as a writing specialist before joining Team Falcon in 2015. I consider myself a life-long learner, and I look forward to learning from our students as they learn from me.

I am the author of five fully produced plays (including a Monty Python-esque Robin Hood that was produced in Portland in 2017), a book of poems with a strangely capitalized title: I Am the Maker of all sweetened possum, and this spring, I was commissioned to make a 'literary art object' out of a Rolodex (the result is called "Rotary 23"). This is an exciting summer for me, as my wife and I are expecting our first baby!

I am a native Vermonter. I received my Masters Degree in Education from the University of Vermont after attending the Vermont Mathematics Initiative. I have been employed as a fifth grade teacher at MES for 11 years. I reside in Milton with my family.
